Parish Council Minutes

SUMMARY OF PARISH COUNCIL MEETING                                   DATE: Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Opening Prayer/ Welcome:  Frank Greco welcomed all in attendance and led us in a “Prayer for Parish Councillors.”

In Attendance:  Fr. Al,  Frank Greco, Mary Ann Brown, Esther Youngblood, Grady Anderson, Edwin Carlson, Helen Greco, Leonel Lopez , Gerry Patrick,  Sandra Youngblood,  and  Jack Youngblood.

Commission Reports:  Frank asked for updates/current activities from our various parish commissions/organizations.

Memorial Mass for Sr. Petra will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Liturgical Commission:   Gerry Patrick

·         Lenten Penance Service - Monday, March 19, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

·         First Friday Adoration – Friday, February 3, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Community Outreach:    Frank Greco

·         Homeless Shelter:  Church Ministries in Charge:

January 1, 2012    -   Knights of Columbus

 February 5, 2012  -   Hispanic Community

 March 4, 2012      -    At-Large

 April 1, 2012         -   Youth Group/Confirmation Class   

·         Homeless Shelter was upgraded with a new sprinkler system

·         In January, 77 people were served at the shelter.

·         When a “head count” is needed, for the monthly dinner, please call the shelter on Friday at 8:00 a.m.

Hispanic Community Activities:     Leonel Lopez & Father Al

·         The Hispanic Committee will meet on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

·         The Thomasville Medical Center will be taking Blood Pressures & Blood Tests for the Spanish Community.

·         The Thomasville Medical Board  holds meetings every month.

·         Representatives from the Latino Credit Union will be here on Saturday, February 11, 2012.

Our Lady’s Guild:      

·         Angel Tree:  188 gifts were distributed to the children.

·         Alpha Pregnancy:  100 baby bottles distributed & 53 have been returned. Deadline is Sunday, January 29, 2012.

·         Souper Bowl Fundraiser:   February 4^th & 5^th,   Soup, Chili, & Bread will be sold after each Mass.

·         Bingo Fundraiser – Saturday, February 11, 2011 at 6:00 P.M., at the Parish Center.

·         Next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the Lexington Tea House.

Knights of Columbus:      Jack Youngblood

·         100 Club:  All tickets have been sold and the January winners were Greg O’Brien and Trini Versoza!!!

·         “Living Rosary” held on “Right to Life” Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. , was very nice, 15 parishioners attended.

·         “Running of the Rose”  similar to the Torch Run - will be held in March – This run crosses the states of Virginia, Florida, and North Carolina to its final destination of Mexico City, Mexico. Runners are needed.

·         L.A.M.B.:  Frank Greco, is the new Chairman for L.A.M.B.

·         L.A.M.B.:  Fund Drives have raised over $3,200.00 this year and exceeded our goal.

·         L.A.M.B.:  Awards Dinner – Friday, February 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., at the Parish Center.

·         L.A.M.B.:  Awards will be presented to Special Olympics and The Workshop of Davidson County.

St. Patrick’s Dinner/Dance:   Frank Greco

·         St. Patrick’s Dinner/ Dance: Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Parish Center, at 6:00 p.m.

·         Orla Kelly Rajan is the Chairperson for this event.

·         Chuck Pfannes will provide the Music.

·         This is a Church Fundraiser! All Parishioners should get involved!

·         Volunteers are Needed.

• Bishop’s Council: All records re:  Parishioners who have seen the video “Protecting God’s Children” must be updated and current.
• St. Francis de Sales Feast:  Covered Dish Dinner, Saturday, January 28, 2012, after 5:00 p.m. Mass.
• St. Blaise Feast – Blessing of the Throats, on February 4^th & 5^th, after all Masses.
• Diocesan Support Appeal (DSA): our goal is $ 17, 423.00 this year.
• Church Audit – An audit will be performed on Saturday, February 25, 2012.
• Davidson County School System: is helping the Spanish population to keep up with their homework, helping parents to overcome their fears re: attending school meetings, Parent/Teacher Conferences, etc.
• Our Lady of the Highways held a similar meeting with the Spanish Community and turnout was great.
• Veterans Building: Owners came to Fr. Al first – asking price is $187,000. Representatives will be coming to see the building on Monday, January 30, 2011
• The Mayor called Fr. Al to notify him of a meeting, at City Hall, on Thursday, February 16, 2012, re: The Needs & Issues of the Hispanic Community.
• First Methodist Lenten Service /Grace Episcopal:  4 volunteers are needed for kitchen help.
